Lake Worth is a coastal city in Palm Beach County, Florida, located between Palm Beach and Boynton Beach, FL. Now known as the Lake Worth Lagoon, the City of Lake Worth was originally named for this body of water situated along the city's eastern border. To the city's west side lies Lake Osborne, a beautiful fresh water lake that residents enjoy a number of recreational activities such as jetskiing, fishing, and boating. The real estate for sale in the Lake Worth area, and the many neighborhoods that make up the city, is comprised of an array of different architectural styles and home prices. This guarantees that there is really something in Lake Worth and Lantana for just about every type of home buyer.
Lake Worth is a dynamic, multi-cultural city with strong social and environmental consciousness, which has drawn people to the city for many years. It's independent character, historic structures, hip downtown area, distinctive residential communities, and it's acceptance of different lifestyles and cultures are just a few reasons why residents of Lake Worth choose to live here.
Looking for specific features in a Lake Worth, Florida home for sale or rent?
The city has a rich history and is protective of its historic architectural fabric. Over 1,000 historic buildings contribute to the human scale and charm of the downtown and residential areas. Lake Worth was settled in the late 1800's just after Congress passed the Homestead Act of 1862, and in 1896 Henry Flagler extended his rail line south from West Palm Beach, making Lake Worth more accessible for new settlers. In 1912, the Lake Worth was formally incorporated and in January of that year Lake Avenue became the first street to be graded and rocked. As the town began to become more populated, the need to construct a dock at the foot of Lake Avenue became obvious to residents; it extended 1,000 feet into the Lake Worth Lagoon. Shortly after, Bryant Park was established and it remains beautiful and active to this day, complete with a modern bandshell for festivals, concerts, and recreational activities.
As settlers moved to Lake Worth in the early twentieth century, they built homes, grocery stores, churches and restaurants. During the summer of 1912, a survey of the town was completed that laid out fifty-five miles of streets, and nearly as many miles of alleys, as well as 7,000 residential lots ranging in size from 25 to 50 feet wide. The small lot sizes were part of a sales tactic that coupled the purchase of multiple acres of farm land west of the community with a small town lot in present-day Lake Worth.
After a short period of neglect and decline in the 1980s and 1990s, the downtown area has seen a huge resurgence in interest and now sports an array of art galleries, sidewalk cafes and night clubs. Once moribund property values have soared. The city's main street, Lake Avenue, contains some of the oldest commercial structures in south Florida, including the Lake Worth Playhouse.

Lake Worth's Residential Neighborhoods
The City ofLake Worth has a great selection of residential communities that cover both middle class areas and upper-tier neighborhoods, both family-oriented and for active adults and retirees. Some mid-priced communities include Isola Bella, Lake Charleston, Winston Trails, Smith Farms, Wycliffe Golf & Country Club, Lakes of Sherbrooke, and Valencia Shores, an active adult (55+) community. Upper-end communities include San Messina, Legend Lake Estates, Countryside Estates, and more. Recreation and Attractions in Lake Worth
The City is the geographic and artistic center of Palm Beach County. The downtown is considered the artistic soul of Lake Worth with a historic theater and a museum, live music clubs, coffee houses, art galleries, antique malls, retail stores, and many restaurants. Historically, it has always been a destination complete with a Casino building with retail shops. Currently, a proposal to renovate the beach park is underway through a public/private partnership.
Lake Worth Golf Club
Established in 1927, the Lake Worth Golf Club has been the epicenter of the community.
