Think Mobility When You Move to South Florida

How will you get around when you move here?

The emphasis on connectivity is the new byword, inspired by town and county governments and especially a hi-speed private rail line using the CSX tracks along north-south Dixie Highway.

Brightline already built stations with parking in Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, and Boca Raton and West Palm Beach in Palm Beach County, all the way to Orlando. That means you can now pop over to Miami without driving I-95, or take the kids to the theme parks in Orlando without using Florida’s Turnpike. It’s even quicker.

The company just ramped up connections from their local stations to the three regional airports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

This isn’t an ad for Brightline, but their presence has inspired Palm Beach County’s public commuter rail and bus system. In September, Palm Tran announced a new bus service from West Palm Beach to Port St. Lucie.

If you’re planning to move here without a vehicle, check with your Lang Realty agent to see what housing or condos are on sale in active adult communities like Century Villages that offer their own bus rides.

The car group think is over, and most communities here, particularly the cities of Boca Raton and Delray Beach, are emphasizing walkability. They already offer free or low-cost connector rides in their downtowns. West Palm Beach and Palm Beach have a fixed-route circuit using an electric van, too.

Most car dealerships here use the familiar Lyft or Uber for service drop-offs, and many residents opt for shared rides for other reasons.

Here’s the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County’s latest guide to walkable destinations:

An engineering firm called DDEC just ranked Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth and West Palm Beach when it comes to walkability. “The next time you’re in Palm Beach County, consider parking the car and exploring these towns by foot. Walking allows you to discover local shops and restaurants while getting some exercise surrounded by beautiful scenery,” the site suggests.
