Still watching “Seinfeld” reruns? They could be 36 years old. Jerry’s series ran from ’89 to ’98. He turns 71 on April 29. This isn’t a knock on a wonderful comedian, but TV mentions of his TV parents’ fictional Boca Del Vista are dated, too.
Back in the day, the real Boca Raton was a retirement mecca. The average age has dropped from the 60s to the 40s. The district built a new grade school and expanded middle schools to accommodate the influx of young families. Moving here with kids before school starts in mid-August? The city’s 30 summer day camps from Junior Lifeguard to Bugs! have rolling weekly signups. Jerry would love to know there’s even acting and improvement. Summer Camps
At last count, the city’s population is over 100,000 and still growing. Boca is 24/7 now. The “Seinfeld” era is long gone. The remaining seasonal residents called “snowbirds” still fly home around now. They’ll be missing Boca’s 2 miles of pristine lifeguarded beach parks along the Atlantic Ocean, including a bark park. The city is in the midst of its Centennial, 100th birthday, and just released another free celebration over Memorial Day weekend. Here’s the link to the Centennial website for all the details: https://boca100.com/?v=0b3b97fa6688
Coconut Cove, Palm Beach County’s waterpark in west Boca, opened in early April with a 986-foot river ride, a lily pad walk and water playground. They have swimming lessons and offer arrangements for birthday parties: Coconut Cove Waterpark
For families and grownups, the city just announced it’s annual “Summer in the City” concerts in Mizner Park Amphitheater downtown. This year there are eight concerts from June 13 to Aug. 8., seven free and one ticketed. Boca Raton Museum of Art next to the amphitheater just announced the opening of the new exhibition, “Glasstress Boca Raton 2025,” on view through mid-October: Glasstress Boca Raton 2025
The museum has weekly events from hands-on art for kids, to music, lunch and learns and even yoga. Boca Raton Museum of Art Events
The city’s two public libraries and Palm Beach County’s two public libraries in west Boca have activities all summer long. And there’s a new high-speed rail a private company built with a station in downtown Boca. Brightline goes south to Miami and north to West Palm Beach and the theme parks in Orlando. Brightline
Have fun in Boca this summer.
