If you’re used to hunting for parking in crowded and expensive cities, you’re coming to the right place. You’ll find free and inexpensive parking everywhere here, with the possible exception of beaches.
Plus, valet parking services are offered for free or a nominal fee, even if the parking at that location is otherwise free. Restaurants usually comp their own diners for valet.
Municipalities charge an hourly rate for on-street parking, and smart meters have evolved to take plastic…some use license plates. If you live there, residents can often apply for a permanent parking permit in cities like West Palm Beach. Delray Beach gives downtown visitors a choice of municipal surface parking lots, garages and on-street meters. Valets are strategically available along their main commercial street Atlantic Avenue, especially at restaurants.
Know before you go, so you don’t inadvertently park illegally and get ticketed, called citations here. There are usually warning signs for newcomers and tourists.
You can valet your ride at every mall and most restaurants, and always at major shopping and dining complexes like Mizner Park in Boca Raton, even if there’s free public parking. Mizner also has a free garage at each corner with signs showing how many spaces are empty, and some paid spots on the street.
If you choose to valet there or anywhere, don’t forget to tip.
But if you’re invited to a gated or country club community, there’s no tipping allowed for the valets in a private community.
Be sure to know the parking rules and see maps if you’re driving to shop, dine or visit nearby locations like Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach or even Miami Beach.
