April is National Pickleball Month, and if access to courts is a priority before you choose where to relocate, you’re in luck.
USA Pickleball, the governing body for pickleball in the U.S.A., calls the game the fastest-growing sport. And pickleball is thriving in south Palm Beach County Florida.
This isn’t your grandmother’s newer version of shuffleboard. Both private companies and public pickleball sites offer instruction, leagues, clinics, clubs, camps and pro shops for kids to adults. Every community served by Lang Realty has pickleball courts and programs.
Established residential country clubs like Hunters Run have added pickleball courts to their racquet sports lineup. Hunters Run has 12. And new construction, like luxury private communities in the Boynton Beach and Boca Raton suburbs, are touting pickleball courts along with their homes.
Low-cost public pickleball courts and programs are growing as community pickleball up to meet the demands.
In Boca Raton, players have indoor courts in Sugar Sand Park and outdoor courts in El Rio Park. Patch Reef Park is expanding its existing courts to 18. Boca Paddle is building an indoor/outdoor public pickleball center expected to open next year.
Delray Beach Tennis Center, the professional home for that sport, just hosted a second annual pickleball tournament. Nearly 600 players signed up. Both Boca Raton and Delray Beach have pickleball clubs.
The company Pickleheads has taken over six courts in the Boynton Beach Tennis Center. Pickleball Yify lists 20 pickleball installations in parks, centers, private communities and even the local YMCA in Boynton. Palm Beach Gardens Tennis & Pickleball Center hosts a Pickleball USA sanctioned tournament and has 10 permanent and six temporary outdoor pickleball courts. Palm Beach County even has a league of its own.
