Even if you choose a house or condo that’s inland, you’ll just be a few miles from the beach.
Beach season is year-round for seasonal residents and tourists. But the traditional start for locals is when south Florida’s cooler temps reach the 80s. About late April or early May.
Most beaches are free in Florida, but they’re not just stretches of sand. West Palm Beach and Delray Beach are famous for beachfront eateries. Others are pristine, like Boca Raton’s lined with hi-rises, and John D. MacArthur Beach State Park’s 1.6 miles of beachfront a few miles from Palm Beach Gardens.
These beaches are cleaned daily, have lifeguards on duty, and some even offer vendors with umbrellas and lounge chairs for a small fee. So, you won’t have to bring anything but sunscreen.
You can even see some beaches remotely. Boca has a webcam showing conditions on South Beach, a tide chart and wind direction and speed.
Channels leading to the Atlantic Ocean have beach cams at Boca Inlet, South Lake Worth Inlet (Boynton Beach), Lake Worth Inlet and Jupiter Inlet.

Boca Raton beaches require the purchase of an annual permit or a daily rate. Bark Beach requires a separate permit, Gated beach parks include South Beach, Red Reef (with nine-hole golf course) and Spanish River (with dockage). All have restrooms and foot showers. Some have rental pavilions and grills. Beach wheelchairs available.
Boynton Beach free Oceanfront Park open from sunrise to 9 p.m. 365 days a year. Lifeguards on duty 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Delray Beach Municipal Beach has 1.5 miles of free, lifeguarded beach with parking and volleyball courts. Dogs not permitted.
Jupiter Island has 3.4 miles of beaches, “each with a different feel, whether you’re having a picnic, catching a wave, searching for shells, or a run with your pup. Here’s information to help residents and visitors plan.”
