If you’re moving here over the summer, you’ll still find summer day camp openings and many other kid activities before school resumes in mid-August.
There’s a wide variety of day camps; most have rolling admissions, week-to-week sign-ups, and age-appropriate programming.
Public camps are the first to fill up, so check what each town can offer. For instance, Boca Raton’s Gumbo Limbo Environmental Camp is sold out except for a week for teens in late July. Their camp provides water activities, from games at the beach to learning how to snorkel and canoe.
Palm Beach County school district urges parents to ask the summer camp director at their child’s school what’s available there. Palm Beach County has an online summer camp directory for parents that has an overview: Summer Camp Directory 2024
The YMCA of South Palm Beach County runs summer camps through Aug. 9 at both of their Ys, west of Boca Raton and Boynton Beach, and two other Y-related locations: Summer Camp
Most churches, Jewish community centers, and private pre-schools have summer camps.
The Studio at Mizner Park, a black box theater venue, has four summer camps, one for each age group…art, DJ, podcast, and theater.
There are non-camp activities, too. Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation has special events over the summer where you can drop older kids off, like Tasty Tuesdays food trucks at Sunset Cove Amphitheater in West Boca. Special Events
Lifeguards are at both county water parks, Coconut Cove in South County Regional Park in western Boca Raton, and Calypso Bay in Royal Palm Beach. Rapids Water Park is also in western West Palm Beach, and Splash Adventure Park is the first town south of Boca Raton in Deerfield Beach.
If you have more of an indoor kid, each town has a public library with a youth section, and the free library system just announced a summer reading program with prizes. Residents are invited to join Adventure Begins at Your Library. Sign up at any Palm Beach County Library System location from Monday, June 3, through Friday, July 26.
