Wellington's Brief History

The Village of Wellington was initially purchased and assembled in 1951 by New York accountant and investor, Charles Oliver Wellington.  By the early 1970s, Wellington was a tiny suburb of West Palm Beach, where people lived mainly as commuters to the big city. There were only a few shopping centers and restaurants, and the area was relatively quiet. Wellington was officially born as an independent municipality on December 31, 1995.  Today, Wellington thrives as a community based upon the values of being a little bit different, but still being a lovely place to live. With what was once 16,000 acres of untouched, often-flooded land, Wellington has quickly become a thriving, affluent community, and was recently listed in Money Magazine’s 2010 Top 100 Best Places to Live.

Residents of Wellington revel in the city’s lavish array of parks and greenery. With more than twenty different parks throughout the community, each colored by a lush, tropical landscape, residents commonly enjoy the use of recreational pavilions, playgrounds, athletic fields, walking paths, picnic areas and dog friendly parks.
